Jefferson County - Alderfer/Three Sisters, Ponderosa Loop

This 3.2 mile hike has beautiful views of the “Three Sisters” rock formation, and the trail is dappled with sunlight as you hike through the forest. There are a couple moderate inclines followed by some downhill stretches.

Take I-70 west to the Evergreen Parkway exit (Hwy 74). Take Hwy 74 to downtown Evergreen, and turn right at the light heading south onto Hwy 73. Go .6 miles and turn right onto Buffalo Park Road. Follow Buffalo Park Road for about 2 miles to the SECOND parking area near a big open field.

Jefferson County - Lair O’ the Bear Park - CANCELED!!, Creek Side Trail with castor cutoff

It’s all about the water… and bridges… and finding muddy treasures on this hike! This hike is along a creek making for endless fun tossing branches, poking at the mud, and looking for water insects, then we will go explore along the ridge to find choke cherries and raspberries. Plan to get a bit muddy and have a blast along the creek! A great hike for experienced toddler hikers.

Take C-470 to the Morrison Road exit and go west. Go through Morrison and then continue straight onto Hwy 74. Go 4.7 miles, and the park is on the left.

Jefferson County - Deer Creek Canyon Park, Meadow Lark Trail

This hike is 2.7 miles and has a pretty steady climb followed a descent back to the start. The scenery is spectacular in this area south of town, and the second half of the hike is restricted to hikers only.

Take C-470 to the Kipling exit and go south. Take Kipling for a short distance to Ute Avenue and turn right (west), then right again onto Deer Creek Canyon Road. Follow the winding road for a couple miles and then turn left onto Grizzly Drive. Go less than a mile and the park is on the right.

Jefferson County - Crown Hill Park, Wildlife Sanctuary Trail

This precious sanctuary in the middle of Wheat Ridge is the perfect place to explore without leaving the city, and it is a great hike for beginning toddler hikers! The wildlife sanctuary is protected by Jefferson County and is home to some magnificent birds. Please bring a stroller as there is a short stroller walk to the entrance where the kids will start exploring.

From I-70, take the Kipling exit south to 26th Ave. Turn east (left) onto 26th Ave. and park in the FIRST parking lot on the right (near the horse arena). Meet at the parking area and we will walk together to the wildlife sanctuary.

Jefferson County, South - Carson Nature Center, Carson Nature Trail - CANCELED!!

This little nature center has some great outdoor exploring areas for the kids! We'll cruise around the short loop and give the kids a chance to play on the rocks!

Take C-470 to Santa Fe and go north. From Santa Fe, turn west onto Aspen Grove Way into the shopping center. Go through the shopping center to the stop sign at Platte River Pky and turn left. Go immediately right into the Carson Nature Center parking area.

Jefferson County - Mathews/Winters Park, Red Rocks Trail

This is a sunny hike with excellent views of the Dakota Ridge and Red Rocks Amphitheatre. This mostly-flat hike has a spur out to a challenging loop up over the ridge for a total of 4.3 miles.

Take I-70 to the Morrison Road exit and turn left onto Hwy 26. Go a very short distance to the Mathew-Winters Park entrance on the right.

Boulder - Marshal Mesa, Community Ditch Trail

This is a 2.4 mile low elevation loop hike with great views of the Flatirons. There are ascents and descents, but none very strenuous. The trail is mostly exposed and well maintained.

From Boulder take South Foothills Highway/South Broadway Ave. (from Golden this is Highway 93) to Marshall Drive and turn east. (This turn is opposite the Eldorado Springs turn off.) Immediately turn right into the trail head.

Jefferson County - Lookout Mountain Nature Center, Forest Loop

This is a .6 mile hike that meanders through the woods allowing for kids to search for birds, bugs and butterflies! The trail has some incline and obstacles making it great for more sure-footed toddler hikers. Following the hike, the nature center is open for some fun exploring of animal habitats and food sources.

Take I-70 to the Lookout Mountain exit and follow the signs to the Lookout Mountain Nature center. We will meet on the benches outside.

Jefferson County - Green Mountain, Green Mountain Trail Loop new

This 2-mile hike has an incline to start and then levels off so we can enjoy the scenery. This hike is exposed and sunny - a great hike in the winter. Dress in layers because the wind can pick up as well. This natural setting is just a hop and skip from town and you won't want to miss this one! New Member Orientation is a great chance to meet other new members and get your back fitted... can't wait to see you!

Exit C-470 at the new Alameda exit and turn West. Then turn right onto Rooney Road. Go about a mile to the trail head on your right.
